Chapter 14
by Peggy Bertrand
copyright 03-15-2002

Age Rating: 18 to 127

Aaron pulled up into Gary’s driveway. He walked to the front door where Liz welcomed him in.

“Hi stranger.” She said.

“Hi Liz, sorry about canceling in such a short notice.” He replied.

“That is alright and the guys are still out back get yourself a beer from the cooler and I’ll fix you a plate.” She said with a smile.

“Great that sounds good.” He said” I am hungry I’ll do that.” He smiled.

Liz started putting together a plate of food from the barbeque for Aaron.

He walked to the sliding doors opened them and went out on the patio with the guy’s.

They all waved at him and he waved back.

“I made it after all.” Said Aaron.

“Great never the same when you don’t.” said Gary.

“Aaron what tied you up to miss a great barbeque?” Asked Bruce.

“ It’s along and confusing story and I don’t even think you guys would understand.” Replied Aaron.

“Try us.” Said Chet.

“Yeah got to tell us now.” Said Bruce with a grin.

“ Okay but I’m telling you guys you’re not going to believe it.” Replied Aaron.

Aaron took a long breath and a drink of his beer and he looked at them they watched with interest.

“Earlier just before I was getting ready to leave for the barbeque.” He paused.
“The phone rang I answered It.” He continued.

“On the other line was a woman who said she had to speak to me about the missing girl.” He said.

“Aaron are you talking about our missing girl?” chet asked.

“Same one she said she had some information about the two sets of foot prints.” Aaron replied.

“”Wait a minute how did she get your number?” asked Gary.

“Mr. And Mrs. Cain shared it with her seems she has had trouble with Tom Rogers who by the way is the detective of this case.” replied Aaron

“If he is the detective anyone would have trouble with that arrogant guy.” Said Chet.

“Well so go on this is interesting.” Said Chet.

“I agreed to meet Terri that’s the woman Terri Miles.” Said Aaron.

“We met down at the boat launch at the park.” Continued Aaron.

“She had pointed out the two sets of prints, and shared with me her theory about the two sets it has an interesting twist to it.” Said Aaron.

“She says that the two men were rather large framed guys by the footprints.” Aaron stopped.

“Great detective work.” Smiled Bruce.

“No listen it’s the rest that got me.” He paused. “She thinks one carried Karly and the other one carried boat or raft.” He finished.

“Here Aaron have another beer.” Bruce said as he handed him a beer from the cooler.

“Thanks Bruce.” Said Aaron.

“So then she shows me another exact set of two prints only these ones are coming back up from the river edge same size and she seen them early morning when all of them were still damp and wet.” He paused.

“Her theory is the girl is still alive and somewhere up river.” He paused again.

“What do you think Aaron?” asked Gary.

“I think for the girls sake it is and was worth checking out.” Answered Aaron.

“I have one question?” stated Bruce.

“How does this lady know all of this the parks the details?’ asked Bruce again.

“That is where you guys wont believe it not sure I do.” Said Aaron.

“She says it’s a gift.” Aaron said it softly.

“ESP?” asked Chet.

“I know hard to believe right.” Said Aaron.

“That's what I thought when she called but you see she does have a lot of details not found in reports or the papers yet.” Answered Aaron.

“So what next?” asked Gary.

Aaron opened the other beer and took a drink he shared with the guys how he and Terri had drove up river along the rivers edge keeping site of anything that would help them locate Karly. Around twelve miles up Terri said she needed him to stop the car feelings were very strong there. He explained they didn’t see a thing. But the river is wide and the other side has no roads along it.

“How about a boat.” Asked Chet.

“You know that was what I had in mind also.” Answered Aaron.

“That settles it we go tomorrow.” Said Bruce.

“My father n law has a runabout we could use it.” said Gary.

“It’s settled all four of us tomorrow.” Said Chet.

“Thanks guys it is worth a try.” Said Aaron.

They all had another beer and Aaron finished his plate of food. It was great. And he smiled and thought to himself this is what I love best about these guys.
They are there when you need them.
