Nostalgia
by Dan Zuewski
copyright 03-18-2002

Age Rating: 13 to 127

Comfort in the darkness
In the emptiness of all thought and sound
Here next to you
In the darkness
I feel my heartbeat attuned to yours
I feel your warmth against my own

Comfort in the darkness
In the lack of all we have yet to do
Yet remembering all we've been through
Still together
Still exploring
Still unsure about most things
But what exists in our world here
Alone and apart from the rest
They don't ever seem to understand

The simpleness, the magic, the synchronicity
That exists in the flowering growth we have
Who we are, what we do, where we've been
Who we will be
We'll be together

And alone in the darkness as I see your chest rise
Breath for breath I match you through the night
Eyes closed, softly smiling
Lips that I long to kiss
Cheeks I long to caress
Eyes I long to see smiling

Nostalgia
In the warm darkness of the night
Hearing the storms outside dissipate
Just a drizzle, something the clouds forgot to say
A momentary reminder
Of that special rainy day
When the world became composed of two
For me and you
Our lives joined by that confession
Punctuating raindrops cleansing
All the years of hope and wait

Here in the darkness
I remember that day
And it’s comforting
To know we’ve stayed together

I think sometimes the dark lets us really see. This is a good poem and I am not that fond of free verse, Anthony

Seeing when there is no light sometimes gives the brightest sight.
