A Mariner's Folly
by Eileen Waldron
copyright 03-21-2002

Age Rating: 18 to 127

The temptation was overwhelming a glorious trip to a
new world, was offered, how could I refuse.

Scintillating words of promise inducing my overwilling
heart to accept, without excuse.

Like a ship sailing on the sea of satisfaction, I had
a positive reaction.

Since, I could not let this herald of happiness discern
that I had suspiscions, i accepted his permission to board.

Thus I went ever deeper into what I perceived to be an
affair that would end by the sword.

Notwithstanding the lyrical lines masterered by this mariner
I saw beyond the rhyme to what might be a disaster.

How sweetly seductive was his aura, enticing me to surrender.
with such bravura.

Like waves of memories seeking shores to curl upon, his current
caught me, and I was added to the games he always won.

There is no denying the electrifying consummation of our union, but
it couldn't last for he held fast to his bachelorhood.

I couldn't be just another lass, that he could pass on, so when he
told me our journey was over, I knew how little he understood.

He was going to be mine forever, and that he could not sever. I
watch for him now through prison bars, where I sent him on a
journey to the stars. When I see his spectre beckoning me, I tell
him to be patient, I'll soon be free, to join him for all eternity.
