Shallow Days

  Shallow Days

I had no underlying talent to acquaint myself with me
I foresaw no obtuse obstacles
as I careened blindly through the madding motions
long ago in my shallowest of days
No deep-seated ingrained thinking,
The narrow passageway was road blocked
A complicated hindrance to the vaguest
of bantam featherweight feelings
A temporary barrier that only lasted 30 years

I pulled a shameless sham so brilliant
in it's magnificent flaring fakery
that no one even had the slightest hint
never would have grudgingly guessed
Least of all, a reluctant me
My intellectual value amounted to null and void
My emotional capacity was at an all time low

The farflung universe at large
has charged the fickle fates
with throwing us mere mortals
a variety of broadbased situations
I had a tendency to cling to them
for qualified emotional support
Sticky lingering flavor on my insecure tongue
like cherry candied Life Savers

Being given resolute courage
strong enough to save myself,
swim against the riptide currents
through shark-infested
polluted waters
I finally made it to the shorelined coast
Understanding that no matter
how highly rough the salty crashing waves
The most worthwhile effort
the toughest test by far
Is not allowing myself
to drown in the raging sea of pain

The invaluable experience garnered
the unfailing lesson learned
I must be willing to accept the offerings
heaped upon my daily plate
Receiving them in heartfelt gratitude
and sincere thanksgiving
Even if the various dishes
are overspiced with sorrow, hurt, and bitterness

I've lived my life too scared to throw
that difficult, elusive
hard to catch Hail Mary Pass
that leads to victory and beyond
because my brain's receptors
were not positioned solely on the touchdown goal..
The headon crash course came
with the clash of softened mind and ironed will
The figured realization
that I can give as well as take
the trophy of deserved happiness,
the defining winner's stance

This one speaks of alot of emotion and eternal searching. and then coming out as in a new beginning a more desirable and successful one. Well done.

Powerful telling, powerful imagery...love the way it ended!

Emotionally, this holds you hostage.
