Grumbling Graveyard Shift

  Grumbling Graveyard Shift

The promise of the day is rainbow leadened as I reach the very end
of Rabbit Skipping Trail
Clovershot milldam water cascade splashes, fickle falls in sloshed dispersals
Liquid streams that overflow the Lionhead's majestic fountain,
smoothed in crumbled polished stone
Silver iodide, invisible fingertips softly strumming tunes
the heavenly harp of Terpsicore Angelsongs

Emblem draped in druplets wild bonanza,
red ripe raspberries play an endless possibility
With blackberry-entangled cousins, darkly clinging-vines
summer-sweetened multitudes
I am keen aware of the mighty growth factor fast advancing
small green leaves sprouting rounded whitish berries
Laying in the shadowed rocky bottom flooring
of Spalpeen Stallion Canyon
An invading army of stinging meanspirited foliage
Rash giving Juggernaut force of poison oak and nettled ivy

A tempting game of hide and seek conceals itself right out of sight
As I retrace the faltering steps I took before
to find that one elusive pot o'shamrock gold
Uphill meanderings, downhill twisting turns
into pathways branching out, tight and narrow
Viewing lofty vistas wild located in the Joe Pye Mountain Range
far beyond my grasping reach

A preset winding destination, pointed switchback crossroads
at the top of Wisdom's Peak
takes me near to Lake Oconee landscape and the Ebeneezer Baptist Church
The rusty cemetary gate creaks forth in an open ended invitation
To the wrought-iron fenced-in burial ground
and the freakish grumbling graveyard shift
The butterific decoyed moon hangglides in kamikaze bas relief
He gossips through the creaks and groans,
clean-shaven air fluorescent floats

I slowly walk among this headstone land, lingering past the stranded sundown hours
and know full-well I play a foolish game, cavorting in the ' Dead Zone '
Persuing goblins hobbling, white-sheeted ghosts, and ghoulish appellations
marked on decaying tombs of sunken granite
Those poor souls afflicted in their living lifetimes
took a wrongturn in misguided missteps to conduct unbecoming,
showing lack of gracious gratitude
Those once dead spirits now are rising, glinting in their clearance strand,
They're a special welcome wagon committee, chilling voices in the crying wind
Saying twilight higgledy piggledy, catch me while you can

A skidmark halted greeting vaults in broken windmill somersaults
As I inhale their heavy polyresinated particles
dusted deep within my bursting lungs
A freezing terror swiftly finds itself at home, spreads quickly through my quivering veins
Tightly squeezing in a cloak and dagger diamond choker necklace
This very private social gathering envelopes my bareknuckled frightened soul

Seems like I'm a star in the making on this hell-bent night of no light entertainment
Just picture if you will,
an onstage inferno musicale production
A ghastly achievement in immortality and endless fame
