Dandelion Parachutes
by Peggy Bertrand
copyright 04-12-2002

Age Rating: 7 to 127

Early one summer day
I was in quite array

Lying out in the yard
Beauty of it all my reward

Green lush thick sprigs of grass
Flowers were blooming all in a mass

Birds singing way up high
Children were napping all were shuteye

Buzzing of bees swept by
A kite way up in the sky high

Ants marching in large lines
Hard workers ran in their bloodlines

Warm breeze played with my skin
While a dragonfly did a backspin

Blinded by the suns noon rays
I covered my eyes so they wouldn’t stray

Above me not too far they were in flight
Bucking each other with all of their might

Like a huge army they flew right over me
I would certainly if asked have to agree

The powder puff army
In flight made me antsy

Hanging just below the puff
By their very cuff

Dandelion parachutes launching
I found it so baffling

As the flew past my face
A feeling of cotton lace
All warm I remained in the summers embrace.

You've captured a fine essence of summer, Peggy...amid the flurry of dandelion parachutes! Some really cute phrases here!

I'm jealous, Peggy
. All I do is sneeze my head off! :) Nice job...

You brought warmth into a pure vision.

"dandelion parachutes"... how enchanting a phrase! :)

my son used to call the full seed heads "puffins" (you know... one puffs at them...) and he called the single seeds (the parachutes!) blowing about "wishes"
