The Terrifying Truth about Planet X-Zero-10

I had often heard stories of terrors that dwelled
on a far-distant planet called X-Zero-10.
But did I pay attention? I scoffed at the tales
and sped straight through a time-warp to see for myself.

Soon the planet appeared. As I cloaked my small ship
behind camouflage-rays, I began gliding down
through its dark purple haze. I focused my scope;
gave a horrified gasp at the creatures below...

They were slimy and ugly -- like huge splats of liver
with reddish-blue shimmers. They moved with a lurch,
and on top of each one was a thin yellow thread
tightly knotted around a small human-type bug.
All across the vast planet, in mottled confusion,
these liver-slabs lumbered relentlessly on.

I reviewed all my inter-galactic resources,
fed info to every computer onboard.
I was stunned to discover the mind-bending truth:
these monsters were thoughts! Once the humans controlled
them and put them to use, but in time, generations
grew lazy and weak, letting robots perform
all the work. So the thoughts began slowly emerging.
At first they remained still attached to the brains,
but they gradually formed their own purpose and power --
the humans became nothing more than their slaves.

I just choked on the knowledge, turned quickly and fled.
But I cannot escape from the scene I observed,
and I'm haunted each night by the gruesome revolt
that has swallowed the planet called X-Zero-10.

There are times I feel strange little thumps in my head --
as though something is trying to squirm its way out. . .

Thanks for your kind responses!
I'm tickled you got a chuckle out of it...
David, I doubt I'll ever write another in this vein...in fact I surprised myself!
Robert, it's blank verse in anapestic tetrameter...which is four beats to a line, written in anapests (da da DUM).
It was fun while it lasted, LOL!
