Why, 'cuz I'm single
should I feel any shame?
Why does the world think
my life's boring and lame
Both snowflakes and sunsets
each one's not the same
Yes each one is different
For that there's no blame
Why 'cuz I'm single
not a wife or a mother
Can't I be original
NOT like every other
For I am complete
and don't need another
I want to be alone
if I'd my druthers
Why 'Cuz I'm single
do folks point and stare
Why do they whisper
when they think I can't hear
It really shouldn't bother me
I know I shouldn't care
I try to not listen
but still it's not fair!
Why 'cuz I'm single
should I go out and date
When it's not what I want -
I don't want a mate!
For then I'd be yoked
and possibly hate
Accepting his lead
and things that he'd state
Why 'cuz I'm single
must I want to have sex
Why does Satan always
think HIS way is the best
Why do folks dump someone
just to look for the next
If they'd listen to Jah
why, then they'd be set
Why 'cuz I'm single
do they think I'm not sane
And then dare to tell me
that my choice is but bane
Singlehood's not something
that causes me any pain
And maybe I don't want
that old ball and chain
Why 'cuz I'm single
do I sometimes regret
And think like they do
my decision's forget
It's times like these I hear
God say, "No worries! Don't fret!"
Of all my decisions
this is the best one yet
Why? Cuz I'm single!
That's why I've the time
To do what I want
in my youth and my prime
I am proud of the fact
being single's no crime
Like snowflakes and sunsets
I'm one of a kind!

I've a friend who's single and WANTS to be. Others won't leave her alone and keep trying to fix her up with someone and tell her that her life's not complete. Sometimes she begins to wonder, but in the end she's happy with her decision and wishes others would just leave her alone. I wrote her a poem the other day and thought I'd share it with you. I'm sure you're tired of all my sad love songs anyway... lol. So, here's something a bit different. Let me know if you've any ideas on improvement. I'm always open for them.

I liked the tenor and spirit of t poem. I can hear and feel that I understand the author's voice. Its a bit too long for me some verses could be rhythmically better.
over-all a good read.
Please forgive my directness,
Single life is good if thats what you want. Me myself, I like having someone to hug whenever you want! Good write and I hope your friend stays happy! Thanks, Anthony
Single people may have the most fun in life if they don't want to be tied down to a family and a huge mortgage. I know quite a few people that are single or married with no children. They enjoy their freedom right into their golden years. Their lives are an alternative, as it should be.
Hi Bryt-Eyz!
This is a great angle...I bet you've captured her sentiments perfectly! I love how you use snowflakes and sunsets together....A fun write, with some serious undertones.

It's always easier to see the wrong (if you want to call it that) in others. Sounds like your a good friend, though, and don't look down on your friend for what society says is abnormal.
