Rat-race
by Laryalee Fraser (Age: 68)
copyright 05-26-2002

Age Rating: 10 to 127

Tiny feet of consciousness
pitter-patter down the street;
tailored thoughts in steely-grey
blink a syncopated beat.

Caught within a power surge,
climbing ladders, row on row,
each one clutches private hopes --
yields them to the status quo.

Tuned to bells and flashing lights,
basic needs have been restrung.
Soon another seething mass
tumbles off the final rung.

This is a good poem. The rats almost sound like lemmings to me asthey follow blindly down the path to destruction.

Rat-race, so true, so sad, so much we all must chase. Well done.
