Adobe Oracle of Blue and Gray

The flame from the hacienda square’s fire pit
undulating in rhythmic virginal intensity
to the touch of a summer night’s breath.
Sitting nearby on a rickety old wooden bench
and engaging the ear’s palate
with the celestial ore of an ancient, lilting Aztec’s melodious pristine magic
that perfectly added an inner feast to the taste of my apples.
Suddenly, my pleasure is raped by a bellowing war cry of "charge"
when a captain in Union blue materializes in the shadows,
and leads his band of troops with fixed bayonets
towards the center of the square.
Musket fire, death screams, profanity and prayers
smothered the music when they clashed with a horde of confederate gray.
Seconds later, mutilated and twisted corpses in shredded uniforms,
smoking muskets and broken sabers
turned into orange vapors that disappear above the fire pit’s dying embers.
Fresh pools of bubbling blood snake to the pit and then also vanish
as a bugle plays, "When the saints go marching home."
Perhaps an apple a day
is one too much.

William, this is fantastic! Great setting, cool vision! (Well, maybe "hot stuff" would be more appropriate, LOL!) Love the action sequence...and what a finish!
