Molly

Molly

Molly stood alone and forlorn
Long stringy hair the color of corn
Her face was dirty covered with dust
Tears streaked down leaving a line like rust

Her head hung low, her chin was drooped
Her shoulder rounded bent over in a stoop
Her eyes were focused upon the ground
Her forehead was creased with a frown

Her dress was filthy and looked like a rag
In her hand she carried a shopping bag
Her legs were skinny, her feet bare
She didn’t have any shoes to wear

As she stood there the wind whipped around
Making her hair stand up at the crown
She saw me looking and she said,"I am Molly
I’m sad as I am looking for my baby dolly

Mommy gave it to me before she died
Daddy won’t look with me," she cried
He thinks I’m to big and Dolly ran away
But I‘ve only been six for a couple of days

Mommy said that Molly would always stay
That she would never leave me or go away
Then she moved her bag to her other hand
And found her Dolly covered with sand

Sometimes the power in sorrow becomes so eloquent and touching in verse.
