Someone for Everyone
by Lyle Berry (Age: 61)
copyright 06-07-2002

Age Rating: 10 to 127

This is for the empty ones
Who have given up all hope
For the abandoned daughters and forsaken sons
Who are near the end of their rope

This is for the lost, forlorn
Who have only dreamed of love
For those who have wished that they had never been born
Who have cursed their God up above

In spite of our curse, and our bent for the worst
Our propensity to be shunned
I remain optimistic (though perchance this sounds mystic)
That there’s someone for everyone

This is for the burned and spurned
Who missed their senior prom
For the ugly ducklings who never got a turn
And never turned into a swan

This is for those seldom picked
Who were last to play on the team
For those who weren’t cool and weren’t part of the clique
Who are used to folks being mean

In spite of our lot, and our bent for sad plots
That we tend to be shy of guns
I remain optimistic (and I know this sounds mystic)
Yes, there’s someone for everyone

Oh, I really like this, Lyle! Speaking from an "ugly duckling's" point of view, I know how badly hope and purpose are needed...this is such an uplifting and encouraging thought! Well done...and thank you!

This I think is a verse that really touches so many. There are far more ugly ducklings than swans. Hopefully, this will inspire hope. Thank you so much for sharing.
