Before giving the recipe. I thought the readers might like to know the history of this drink.

In 1973 my wife read this article in a British Newspaper, the headline was "The Queen's Beautiful Secret",and went on to state that H.M.The Queen, used this recipe to maintain her dazzling skin, sparkling eyes, and trim figure.Home made Barley water was claimed to be from an old family recipe. The article claimed that the Queen drank it all the time, and preferred it to wine. I still have the old newspaper cutting.

Ingredients.
1. Tea cup of Pearl Barley.
6. Oranges.
2. Lemons.
4. Pints of boiling water.
Demerera sugar to taste.

Method.
Put the barley into a large sausepan, add the boiling water, simmer over a low heat, keeping the lid on for 1 hour.
Squeeze the fruit, and keep the juice.
Strain the water from the barley into a basin.
Add the rind of one lemon and two oranges.
Add sugar to taste.
Allow to cool.
Strain off the rinds.
Add the fruit juices.
Keep in the refridgeator.

For those who prefer more lemon taste, simply add lemons in plce of oranges.

Chock full of vitamin C and B., Home made barley water helps to purify the system, and an ideal health drink for any one feeling out of sorts.
