Waiting
by Peggy Bertrand
copyright 06-28-2002

Age Rating: 18 to 127

I wait for your
return my love
The cold brazen
waves sing in octave

Chills from the north
have engraved with snow
Your journey no one
can tell me of no
one knows

I wait for you day
and night still
no word
Not one ship has
been anchored

Time is endless
and then it spins
into eternity
I wait between the two
tall pillars at the abbey

Still no note no
message no dove
I look into the deep
crystal cold sky above

No message no return
of my true love
Cold grows the memories
I give them a shove

My heart it has
grown faint
I always warned
you I'm no saint

Perhaps this day in
the courts of ice
Memories of day long
gone will suffice

I look out across the
snow and shattered glass
Towards the sea beyond
the jagged landmass

Someone I see in
the distance
I recognize not
You have been gone
so long if it is you
I have forgot

Turning now towards
the warmth of shelter
I will depend on cupid
to be my archer

A mournful feeling fills this, Peggy...you've portrayed the waiting with some interesting imagery!

Very soulful writing...I can feel her longing...

There is great passion and intensity of longing in this poem. I doubt I could have that kind of patience, I have trouble just waiting for the movie to come back during a commercial! Very moving. Thanks for sharing.

Well-crafted images here and wonderful poetry. It reminds me a little of Lara waiting in the Ice Palace in the romantic film "Doctor Zhivago" -a favorite of mine. Thanks for sharing this beautiful piece.
