Opening the garage?
by William Robbins
copyright 07-12-2002

Age Rating: 18 to 127

Pausing in a repast of medicinal antidotes
for the linen of failures I wear,
my eyes impatiently consume each tick of my wrist watch
while waiting outside the garage for a door repairman
and feeling unsettled in my deteriorating utopia of control.
When he does arrive
wearing a rain barrel, ski mask and swim fins,
my confidence in his success sinks into a sickening quagmire of regrets.
Then we are joined
by a two headed blonde vixen dressed as a swan
driving an old blue dodge without any wheels.
She asks for directions to Mars and the nearest ARCO AM/PM
before she slithers her cars towards a large purple hedge
where it vanishes with the car horn steadily screaming
and hopelessly tormenting my ears.
After the repairman blows a bugle to signal he is finished
I click the button on the garage door opener.
It mercifully opens
with the light of dawn
subduing the affects of a mid night snack.

Some midnight snack. Were you awake at the time or dreaming? I love your very vivid descriptions. They're awesome!!!
