Coveting hate
by Debra Rose (Age: 21)
copyright 11-05-2003

Age Rating: 13 to 127

This was orginally written on 7-12-2002, and is being put into workshop because I decided I should go over all my old works and fix them up. Hope you enjoy!

Sickening disgust
Burning hate
Twisted jealousy
And I wonder,
Is this what a Christian is supposed to be?

Caring only about possession
Losing what I once owned
Feeling a sick amusement
When I find out that they’re not happy.

But I don’t like this
Want something else
Need it
To quench the fire
That has become my soul
Yet doesn’t melt the icy exterior

Carbon frozen
I cannot be melted.

I covet only
What isn’t mine
And want only
What I can’t have
But when I have it
I want it no more
Till they turn away and I pull them back.

A small little crack
In the metal around me
Break through
If they made it through the fire
They would find
The freezing ruby
That is my heart

Red;
The color of hate
The color of passion
The color of love
Filled inside with the frozen blue
Of apathy.

So why am I consumed
So suddenly by the fire
Burning
Turmoil
Eating
My
Soul

Is this what a Christian is supposed to be?

A Christian is a follower of Christ.

Christianity is not a religion as Regina S. has stated. It is the acceptance of the gift of eternal life given by Jesus Christ.

Being a Christian doesn't make a person perfect, it simply means that they have given their sins to Christ and accepted His gift of salvation.

Unfortunately, there are many people who claim to be Christians and are not. To them, Christianity is simply a religion. They do not really understand who Christ is, and have never really invited Him into their lives.

Don't throw out the baby with the bath water, as the saying goes. Don't put your faith in people, even if they say they are Christian, as people are never perfect and will let you down. Put your faith in Jesus. If you do this you will know what true Christianity is all about.

Thought Provoking!
Great work.

Hi Debra:

It looks like you are really working through a lot of issues with your verse. That's one of the great healing powers of poetry. I hope along the way you find some of the answers you seek. What Christians are and what we aspire to be are often different. But then there would be no need for forgiveness if we reached the ideal by our own strength, now would there? May God grant you the blessing of peace and joy to learn from your experience.
