Surrounded by Emptiness
by Jessica Conley (Age: 18)
copyright 07-15-2002

Age Rating: 10 to 127

All alone, by myself,
No one to share my feelings with.
Some people say I'm a nobody,
Some people say I'm too shy to have friends.
But deep inside, I know they're wrong.
I am a somebody,
Who has feelings just as you do.
I only wish they would see that,
I'm a person too.
I sometimes say I'm surrounded by emptiness,
Because the world is so quiet and sad.
I wish I had someone to share,
All of my good times and bad.
I wish, oh I wish,
For one thing in the world.
I wish for a friend that would stand by my side,
Someone in who I could confide,
But until then, I guess,
I am surrounded by emptiness.

Hi Jessica,
I know where you're coming from. I, too, was very shy at school. In fact, my best friend moved and then, like you, I felt completely alone. You write very well. Isn't it strange that sometimes when we are at our lowest, that's when we can write some of our best poems?
