Was it fate or just the wrong place at the right time?

Julie is gone, She is no more.

She saved our lives and in a horrible ironic twist,

she died.

She ran under the truck that Les was driving,

how awful he must feel.....

Les loves animals, has a 'way' with them.

He can whisper to a horse, soothe and calm it,

he can calm a vigilant guard dog, and become its friend..

The last person that I know in the world to hurt an animal...

The worst thing that he (feels) he could do...........

And yet...as he castigates himself, I stand by -

being there,

not knowing what to do or say...

except:

I love you.

I need to show this to my mom. She ran over Tippy a few years ago and felt awful! I think my mother would get just as much out of the wonderful and heartfelt comments here as well as the writing itself. :)

Bunny, my heart goes out to you and Les. Years back, our family dog met with accident which occurred while my father was running the tractor - he ran after a mouse, Dad couldn't see him and hit him. Dad spent much time on the fields, working them, trying to sort out his guilt. Mum and I took care of Rufus, giving him a proper burial - Dad simply couldn't do it this time, it was too hard. Eventually with support from family and all our neighbours, Dad released the guilt and understood Rufus wouldn't have blamed him for the accident. One day hopefully so will you and Les. Very tragic and hard for you both.

What a sad story Bunny.

Bunny, I'm so very sorry to hear about Julie. I know how much animals mean to both you and Les. I only hope that you understand that Julie would not want you to feel badly for her. She awoke Bob because she knew you were in danger. It was her role to serve and protect and there couldn't be a more valiant action. Just remind Les that he must forgive himself because Julie never blamed him for what happened.

Thanks, Sunny, Betty and Michelle. This happened last evening, so there is a pall of gloom hanging over us. Poor Les even offered Julie's son, Snooper to Bob, but, he's been with us for 4 years, and wouldn't likely stay with Bob, especially this close to home. One of the terrible things that went with this tragedy was that Bob had called Julie to him, she went, and as Les was driving out of the yard, she ran right under the truck. Mercifully, her neck was broken...Thanks for reading and commenting, Bunny

Write it all out, Bunny. How terribly sad! Well written.

Choked me up, beautifully written, Bunny.
