I watched a girl on a dance floor
As she swayed in perfect harmony.
The savage rhythm her only captor
She seemed eerily familiar to me.
Everyone's eyes were on her
I can read the longing in their faces
Her movements sensuous..like a whisper
filling briefly their empty places..
She moved in a world all her own
only briefly touching other worlds
Yet she was consistently alone..
As in and out of lives she whirled..
Then as my gaze moved to her head..
She looked up to me..
And I wished I could turn away instead
At the sudden realization that she was me..

I wrote this back in May 1992. It started as writing about a girl I saw at a dance and ended up being a self-portrait of me. When I write it is to get out things I am feeling or experiencing. How that happened I won't ever know. My thoughts just pour out onto the paper..
