Princess Buttercup
by Sharron Tyrrell
copyright 06-17-2001

Age Rating: 18 to 127

In the quiet woods by a babbling stream sits a lovely young Princess. Her brilliant tresses are woven with ribbons and jewels. On her cheek a giant tear sparkles like the jewels in her hair. Around her are gathered her forest friends, they creep ever closer to show her they love her. By her knee sits a rabbit, soft ears touch her hand and a blue bird sits on her shoulder.

The lovely young Princess Buttercup has been searching the forest for her sister and has been unable to find her. Felicity left the castle early this morning to gather some berries to have for breakfast. Sweet fat berries covered with cold cream is her favorite morning treat. Apparently Felicity took a wrong turn as she searched and had become lost.

There is a giant who lives in the forest and doesn’t care for the royal family because they have tried to take his land from him. It is feared that Felicity wandered onto his property and was captured and locked away by the giant. Buttercup needs to go back to the castle and tell the King and Queen that she was unable to find Felicity. Her royal parents will be angry with her as she was asked to keep an eye on her sister and never allow her to wander into the forest alone.

Buttercup said to her friends ,“There is no since sitting here thinking about what will happen. The sooner I get back to the castle the sooner the knights can be sent to search the forest and confront the giant.” Buttercup stood to leave, her woodland friends followed her to the edge of the forest.

Buttercup found her parents in the diningroom having breakfast. She told them what had happened and was promptly sent to her room to be dealt with later. The alarm resounded throughout the kingdom and soon the courtyard was full of people hoping to find out what happened. The King explained that Felicity had gone to the forest alone and not returned and that he feared she had been captured by the mighty giant. Several of the strongest men in the kingdom got together to form a plan to find the Princess.

Thorn a tall blond blacksmith became the leader of the ever increasing group. It was decided that they would search the forest for the giants home and when they found it decide then the best way to rescue the Princess. Men on steeds carefully worked their way through the forest. In the side of a mountain was a large cave, leading up to the opening one could see large footprints. The home of the giant had been found.

From close by came the sound of lovely singing. Thorn climbed down from his horse and quietly searched for the source of the song. There sitting under a tall willow tree was Felicity. She was eating berries from a bowl and watching two raccoons scurry around her feet enjoying her song.

Thorn asked Felicity what had happened and where the giant was. She explained to Thorn that the giant had come upon her crying in the forest because she was lost. He gently lifted her and brought her here with her berries. He found her some cold cream and settled her under this tree with woodland animals to watch over her while he hurried to find someone who would be able to return her to the castle. They found a stick and wrote the giant a note in the soil under the tree, explaining that Thorn was returning her to the castle. Felicity kissed her woodland friends goodbye and mounted the steed behind Thorn.

The story was repeated to the King and Queen and again a search party was sent out to find the giant. He was to be brought to the castle before the King and Queen. He was frightened to enter the courtyard but went anyway. The King and the Queen greeted him with open arms and invited him to partake of the feast they had prepared for him. He was thanked by all of the kingdom and never again was he bothered by anyone.
