Use ta Be
by Lyle Berry (Age: 61)
copyright 08-13-2002

Age Rating: 13 to 127

I use ta care about this; I use ta care about that;
Now I just sit here growing old and fat.
Use ta have longer hair; use ta have a great smile;
Now I don’t think that I can go one more mile.

I use ta have hopes and I use ta have schemes;
Now I toss and turn with these horrible dreams.
Use ta fall in love; use ta have butterflies;
Now I stare at four walls thru these tears in my eyes.

It don’t matter at all what use ta be!
‘Cause when it all comes down,
We’re all alone – don’t you see?
What use ta ain’t now – what use ta’s back then,
Just the sad memories of a use ta be man
And nothing means nothing, my friend_________!
If it use ta be.

I use ta climb trees - no thoughts of hurtin’ my head;
Now I can barely crawl outa my bed.
I use ta find joy in the simplest things;
Now I find fear in what every day brings.

I use ta have a future and I used ta shout wow!
Now I really don’t give a damn anyhow.
I use ta think love was a treasure that'd last;
Now I’m just a fool with a use ta be past.

It don’t matter at all what use ta be!
‘Cause when it all comes down,
We’re all alone – don’t you see?
What use ta ain’t now – what use ta’s back then,
Just the sad memories of a use ta be man
And nothing means nothing, my friend________!
If it use ta be.

Oh, nothing means nothing, my friend________!
If it use ta be.

This reminds so much of a man named Gale that I used to play games with at Aspen Winds nurseing home. He would have adored this.
Keep up the good work!

I can hear Johnny Cash singin' these words in his "used ta be" voice.
Very good.....it works for me!

The past is the past is the past...this was really great...I could just hear you strumming a guitar and singing this. :)
