Why
by Patricia Boudreau (Age: 57)
copyright 08-13-2002

Age Rating: 18 to 127

You...
you there,
standing with that look,
like I
was somehow
able to read your mind...

What...
was that,
that tone in your voice,
like I
am somehow
guilty of all your sins...

When
did I
become the scape goat,
like I
am the cause
of all your effects...

You,
you there,
unwilling to bend
like I
am a storm
you seek shelter from...

When
did you
stop believing
that I
would never stop
believing in us...

What I particularly like about this poem is the flip/flopping of language. For instance "I am the cause of all your effects..." shows one side of an idea and then flips it on its back. And "When did you stop believing that I would never stop believing in us... " with the way you echo the language really drives the question and the challenge home.

WOW!! Your poem sounds like a familiar part of my life. Fantastic!

I like your antagonist/progtagonist parallel construction, and the closely-knitted relevance of each stanza, the progression is wonderful. I sense a major confrontation at hand... Good job, it left me wanting more.

Why is that question with so many doorways. You went through some important ones in this poem.

This is fantastic....thank you for reading mine as well....this is very well-stated!
