Three Times Ain't the Charm
by Lyle Berry (Age: 61)
copyright 08-16-2002

Age Rating: 18 to 127

Oh, what would it be like to be loved back,
with a passion like I feel?
Reciprocal love – yes! That’s what I lack!
I’d love to be loved with zeal.

I’m racked with quick tears by romantic scenes
where the girl madly craves the boy.
I’ve never known – not even in dreams,
such inconceivable joy .

How would it be, to be the one needed,
instead of the one who needs?
I’ve tried and tried, but never succeeded;
I’m always the one who bleeds.

Do you think my ardor chases them off;
should I become more aloof?
My professions of love must make them scoff;
don’t laugh - I have years of proof.

The deeper my care, the cooler they grow;
‘til their touches turn to ice.
But I won’t give up; I guess I am slow;
‘cause I have been married thrice.

...to love and be loved in return...is simply put the most wonderful feeling in the world...it has eluded me for a while, so I can relate...the best discourse, I'm finding is no discourse...nice flow, good rhythm...I enjoyed immensely.

Being married once is enough for me, but I can definitely relate to what your poem says, Lyle.

Wow, absolutely smooth flow and rythym to this. Well, I'm married for the third time and it better be the charm, but believe it or not, I'm remarried to my first husband!

Ah yes, all too familiar. You've captured well what every guy who's not "afraid of commitment" has been up against at some point.

Great lyrics, they have sort of an upbeat feel to them. I like!

Oooh! Three times. Well all I can say is hang in there! Er, perhaps the four time could be the...

Anyway, great poem and real zinger of an ending!
