Say my name
by Ryszard Krasowski
copyright 06-20-2001

Age Rating: 1 to 127

It was given to me when I was born,
And it was given to you.
I am recognized by it,
And you are recognized by it, too.

What I am talking about, is my name
Which is part of who I am.
If it's difficult for you to pronounce it,
I am not the one to blame.

There are a lot of names in the world,
And it's hard to learn them all.
But if you try to pronounce them,
You'll have fun, not to say a ball.

Let's take my name, if you don't mind,
Which is RYSZARD, by the way.
It's not a big deal for me to say it,
But can YOU say it the proper way?

I can hear you saying now:
Is he crazy or what!
Well, as far as I know,
I may assure you, I am not!

I have learned all your names,
And it wasn't hard for me to do.
So, if you don't mind my asking,
How about you?

You tried to call me RYEZARD.
What sounds good, but it is not me.
Let me then explain to you,
How it should be.

Let's take the first letters,
Which are R and Y.
When you put them together,
They should sound RI not RYE.

The next five letters in my name,
Are the toughest ones for you.
But if you think about your SHARD,
It makes it easy to pronounce them, too.

Now, I think, you're ready to say my name,
The way it should be.
So put all the letters together, please...
It's not so hard, you'll see.

If you have enough of me,
I am the one who you may blame.
For what I've done to you,
But at least you know my name.

And now when you can pronounce it,
And it sounds good to you.
I can only bow,
And say, to all of you: THANK YOU!

RYSZARD = RISHARD

Wow,
Looks like you get about of people who can't pronouce your name. :D But I can now! *Keeps saying It to myself. Not hard, But I guess It could be a little when people see your name written down. It's a part Of life, and people are people, making mistakes. It's okay, we learn from them. Good job with the poem.

Excellent idea! Excellent poem! Maybe I will write something like it... about my name. Irina, Irene...
Hope to read new poems!
Irina.

Oh you have a great command of English, RISHARD. I'm patting myself on the back b/c I have been pronouncing it correctly all along, but I think you can pat yourself even harder on the back--writing a rhyming poem in a foreign language that one has only recently learned is, in my eyes, quite an accomplishment.

This is cool and yes, I practised trying to say your name as you described. Being on the net, I've been "meeting" people from overseas who's names are not pronounced as they appear written in English. It's been very interesting and fun to learn to pronounce the names. One friend made a wavefile (I believe its called) with her pronouncing her name and sent it out. Was very different from the way all of us thought it should be pronounced and difficult for us to say - she met some online people and related back it was a hoot to hear all the variations on her name.

Really enjoyed your poem!
