Little Girl, Little Boy (Where Are You Going)
by Cristina Lipp
copyright 08-17-2002

Age Rating: 7 to 127

Little boy, little girl
Where are you going?
Why leave the summer behind?
Don't you know
The grass is much greener
The flowers much sweeter
When you're five?

Cracker Jacks, broken toys
Small dirty faces;
Teardrops that end in a smile.
Put away
Your years of tomorrow
For growing brings sorrow,
Oh, little child.

Living eternally, passing by
Secret worlds to share.
Magical gardens filled with joy.
Rainbows that never fade.
Treasures of yesterday.

Little boy, little girl
Now that you've grown up
So did your troubles and cares
Did your dreams
All turn to nightmares?
Isn't life so frightening?
Poor little child.

Little boy, little girl
Where are you going?

This poem has such a lyrical quality. I hope you find a way to make it into a song.

I loved this! You have some outstanding lines and imagery...and some powerful thoughts to ponder....excellent!

Billy, I wrote this as a song. I even had the music for it. Alas, I am not good at writing musical scores. So it came out sounding something like a waltz (of all things). Maybe you can write the music to it????
