Graduation Day
by Cristina Lipp
copyright 08-19-2002

Age Rating: 13 to 127

Today--
Your efforts rest
Just for awhile.
The textbooks close;
Your lesson learned.
And gone
Are hurried footsteps
Down the hall.

A long, lost stare,
The laughter shared;
All memories -- silent now;
Will linger here
But not for long.
You'll reminisce
And then move on.

Prepared --
You'll go into the world.
You'll put away
Your childish dreams.
You'll strive one day
For the highest star
And grasp your destiny!

I wish you would have made that longer. I'm only a sophmore, but I'm so scared of graduation. I love high school, and wish i could stay in it forever. It's safe. There you don't have to worry about the world outside. The teachers and parents shield you from life, and you don't have to worry about recessions except what it's going to do to your clothing. Your biggest problem you face is drugs or wondering if a fight will get out of hand, or if your teacher will accept the homework after school. The line that made me near tears:

A long, lost stare,
The laughter shared;
All memories -- silent now;
Will linger here
But not for long.
You'll reminisce
And then move on.

Prepared --
You'll go into the world.
You'll put away
Your childish dreams.

It's going to be hard to put away those dreams, and to move on. I don't know what I'm going to do after high school. To me, that's the most terrifying yet exciting image ever. I need to go to wonderland. I don't want to grow up!!!!
