My Only Love (Christian)

by Elizabeth Schalchlin (Age: 29)
copyright 08-19-2002

Age Rating: 7 +

((Written 1998, age 14, as a song. Yes, I realise that it is strange and ironic that I rewrote a song entitled, 'My Only Love' and so therefore have two versions of a song proclaiming that that love is the only one. Shortly after I wrote the original 'My Only Love' I realised that the only true love I should and did have in my life was the love of God. So I rewrote the song for God. Here is the rewrite.))

******

I was lost in sin and sorrow,
all I could do was cry
and then You came and said You loved me,
and dried my tearful eyes.

Oh You died and rose again,
You set my spirit free
and I know someday we'll be together,
when I join You in the Heavenlies.

My only love, my heart's affection,
the One that I adore.
My only love, true perfection,
my Saviour forevermore.

and I know someday we'll meet again,
and my heart can go on.
Until then You're in my soul.
My only love.

The day You came into my heart
my soul was finally saved,
sweet salvation bought with Your blood,
my sins were finally paid.

Now I can live through Your love,
and grow with You everyday.
For Father God I am Your child
and You love me even when I stray.

My only love, my heart's affect
the One and Only I adore,
my only love, true perfection,
my Saviour forevermore.
and I know someday we'll meet again,
and we'll never be apart,
until then, Your in my soul.
My only love.

It's hard to believe that you were so young when you wrote this. Have any of your poems been set to music? Would I know any of them; are they being sung in any churches today? Keep up the great work. There is a ministry, a career or both in this for you.
