My Sinful Nature
by Elizabeth Schalchlin (Age: 24)
copyright 08-19-2002

Age Rating: 7 to 127

((Written 1998, age 14, as a song.))

*****

Lord, I want to be holy,
Father, I just want to be Your child,
and I just want to do what I should do

But everytime I try to live for You
for a moment I take my eyes off You
and my sinful nature comes through.

My sinful nature
always gets in the way.
My sinful nature
causes me to stray.
Sometimes I can't help it
so every night I pray
but my sinful nature
always gets in the way.

Why do I live in a 'fallen world'?
And why is the tempter oh-so sly?
Why can't I just go to be with You?
You say You have a reason for keeping me alive.

So I go on in this world
and I stumble everyday
but Your love is never-ending, never-failing,
You keep on smiling down on me and showing me Your way.

But my sinful nature
always gets in the way.
My sinful nature
causes me to stray.
Sometimes I can't help it
so every night I pray
but my sinful nature
always gets in the way.

The Apostle Paul writes about this very thing. We all face problems with our sinful nature, but thank God we have been set free through the sacifice of Jesus. You have written an excellent poem.
I wrote a poem some time ago called, Holy War. It is about the same topic. As soon as I send enough comments, I will upload it to this site. Watch for it.

Wonderfully expressed truths about life. Sin does seem to get in the way at times. I keep hoping someday, but... Great poem.

I absoloutly loved it! I feel that way so much and really could relate. You wrote it beautifully. I wish I could hear what it sounds like being sung.

Very nice flow to your lyrics. I hope you aren't really so harsh on yourself. You did a nice job here Elizabeth.
