Your very first lie
by Elizabeth Schalchlin (Age: 24)
copyright 08-20-2002

Age Rating: 10 to 127

Another call goes unmade as I wait in the silence of your lie,
Another piece of my heart slowly melts away as I faintly wonder why.
I have been hurt before,
I have felt pain before,
I have had my trust destroyed
and my heart has been toyed
with.

I have a skill, a magical ability
For embracing heart breakers with unnerving agility.
I change my life, I reshape my time
I sit and wait for the phone to chime,
I annoy my friends who have long been true
With silly talk of me and you.

They know the time can't be too long
Before the heartbreak comes along.

But you seem so perfect and its hard to know
Should I keep you or should I let go?

Reading the poems I have written these days
My heart can't decide, it sways and sways.

Still I must wonder, do you think of me?
Do you realize you can cause such misery?
Do you realize that every time you fail to call
You cause my heart to ache and fall?

I have written so many words, some good, some bad
Some filled with admirations, others just plain mad.

And the thought of you, living unaffected
Leaves me lonely and cold, feeling dejected.

I know you're far, I know I'm out of sight
But this was going to work, it was going to be all right.
Now I sigh and wonder what to do
I'm sitting here, still waiting, making excuses for you.

Maybe he's hurt, maybe he's dying,
Maybe his best friend called him up crying
Maybe he heard his puppy dog groan,
Maybe a storm has disabled his phone

Or maybe I need to face the truth
And stop wondering if he has a sore tooth.
Time after time he has failed to call
Now I must wonder if I matter at all.

Do you remember our very first day?
I asked, "Do you lie?" And what did you say,
"No, I hate lies, I'm a real truthful guy",
And that, my friend, was your very first lie.

Ouch, that hurts. Are we that bad as young men? Well we get better when we grow up ( if we do that is...some don't ). Sorry you are getting to experence this and thanks for letting this out! Thanks, Anthony
