Together Tonight
by Elizabeth Schalchlin (Age: 24)
copyright 08-26-2002

Age Rating: 10 to 127

How can you be so close to me and yet so far away?
My soul just keeps on screaming all the words my lips can't say.
We're in the same small universe, the same stars shine on you tonight
And yet I feel you are so far when your not in my sight.
Tonight you'll dream, you'll lose control, you'll drift into a trance,
And if we are to be together, here's our only chance:
I'll meet you half past two a.m., I'll see you with closed eyes,
We'll meet and talk, hold hands, and walk beneath soft, slumbering skies.
I'll kiss your sweet intangible lips, you'll stroke my intangible hair,
I'll tease and flirt, pull at your shirt, although there's nothing there,
I'll run behind a giant tree that's only in my mind,
You'll search for me both high and low, then sneak up from behind.
As surrealistic images blur on by the night grows deep and old
Luckily I will have you to keep me from the cold.
You'll hold my unreal body close in your unreal arms
And then we'll be awakened by our actual alarms.

Much like dream-walking. Great sequence, I was drawn right into the poem. Nice job.
