A closed and plumping flower bud extends
Beneath my bedroom window all alone.
She rises from a prickly stem that bends
To lend to her a view of me at home.
Through glass I gaze in wonder at the bloom
In hopes that soon she’ll open to the morn.
The window thrown and gaping wide leaves room.
I reach and touch and quick draw back from thorn.
The finger’s tip slow wells a bloom of blood.
As I again extend my hand to touch,
Caress and gently lift the bloomless bud.
A smear of crimson stays behind, not much.
And crimson answers crimson, bud’s seams split,
Her scarlet fragrant face leaves me full smit’.

I have been away for a couple of weeks and now we have a new poet who is writing so well. Congratulations on this poem. The title is arresting as are the images.
Thoroughly enjoyed your poem, Aaron. But please explain the last line to me "..Her scarlet fragrant face leaves me full smit’.
Are you smitten by the beautiful flower as well as its fragrance???
