Ferdinand
by Sharron Loughran
copyright 06-25-2001

Age Rating: 10 to 127

You see, Ferdinad was a sorcerer. But he was not an ordinary person. Ferdinand was a feline, to be precisely, a cat! Ferdinand always seemed to come across wizards in training that the Whisperer sent his way for him to train to be an integral part of the great workings.

He along with other sorcerors, were charged with keeping an eye on the gates that were used by travellers from either world to world, or from one part of the country to another. Ferdinand was a big huge orange tabby, whose passion in life was pasta.

His person, you see, owned a Italian restuarant, so Ferdinand had access to all the pasta he wanted. He was really partial to lasagne and garlic bread especially. He brought all his dates over to "eat out" as he called it.

One day, Ferdinand spotted a disturbance in the gate his team was responisble for. Everyone gathered around to watch and keep an eye out. When out of the blue, a young black tom dashed out of the gate, quickly followed by another. Ferdinand and his team dealt with the gate meanwhile. The young black tom came back, minus the one following him.

"Thanks mate," the young tom said. "I've had that bugger on my tail for a while now. Territorial lot, you wizzards are." Ferdinand and his team stared at him. "Anyhow," the tom goes on, "Any chance of being able to get home?" he asked.

Ferdinand shook his head. "Youngsters these days he said. I think the Whisper has plans for you" Ferdinand said. Testing the air, Ferdinard shook his head at the answer. Calling his team, Ferdinand turned to the youngster, "What maybe your name?" he asked. The tom replied, "I'm Shadow, my person seemd to like it. Besides could be worse!" he said.

"Well youngster, it seems the Whisperer has thrown a wizard in training in our lot" Ferdinand said. "Did you hear someone talk to you and ask you questions that you agreed too," he asked. Frowning the young tom said "Why I think so." Ferdinand laughed, "Why there you go. The Whisperer has got you to admit you might be a wizard someday"

Bidding his team goodnight, Ferdinand trotted off. "Are you coming or not?" he asked. "I hate to be late for supper." The tom hurried up, being chased worked up an appetite for sure.

And that's how Shadow came to be a part of Ferdinand's team in the great workings that the Whisperer planned for the world.
