The Car That Wasn
by Sharron Loughran
copyright 06-25-2001

Age Rating: 10 to 127

You see, the car that wasn’t, was really Rosebud. Rosebud was an elven steed who could magically transform herself into anything she wanted but mainly took the form of a car so her rider, Julian could get around.

One day they were cruising along when they spotted a young girl in trouble. Rosebud raced up and Julianth jumped out of the car, grabbing the girl. He put her in the car and told Rosebud to move it. Racing along they quickly outdistanced the other car that started to chase them. Well that was the start of trouble for Rosebud and Julian.

The girl they had rescued was the daughter of a high ranking Unseelie court member. They were the darker side of the elves who were a little on the nasty side. Of course, so was she, for she was cursing at them and they had rescued her no less! Julian was a good elf (or Seelie) and he sighed when he found this out about her. Still she was in trouble and didn’t deserve to be hurt.

Julian directed Rosebud to an area where he knew the girl could find others of her court. Stopping in front of an innocent looking restaurant, he bade Rosebud to keep an eye on her and not to let her out. Julianth entered the restaurant quickly scanning for the person he was looking for. Spying the person, he crossed to talk to him. Julian quickly in short terms what had happened and bade the person to follow him back outside. Once outside, he commanded Rosebud to open up, the girl quickly scrambled out, cursing him again. Without a word of the thanks, the Unseelie went back inside.

Julian and Rosebud quickly left the area, for though they had done a good deed, doesn’t mean the Unseelie would not come after them.

Julian sighed, one more adventure in this world the mortals called Earth. But for now, it was home, so he directed Rosebud to head for home out in the country so they both could rest.
