Slash!
by Beverley McInnis

Your words
Painted with hate
Ripped into my soul
Tore at my essence
Punctured my beating heart
Destroyed what was left
Of the ragged happiness
That was dispersed within the nether regions
Of my exhausted body

Your words
Tinged with cruelty
Slashed my wrists
Draining purple blood of sacrifice
Spilling over the abrasions
Left on my knees
From begging for mercy
On rough cold concrete pads

Your words
Surrounded with anger
Stabbed my grey matter
Oozing out, flowing over
Spilling, tumbling into drainage ditches
Flowing backwards to sewage
Mixing with shit painted black

Your words
Stole my eyes, burned my ears and nailed my lips
My colour drained to match the walls
Pale against the setting sun
Fires blackened crosses upside down
While those in linen white danced upon the graves
Of my fathers, my mothers, my sisters, my brothers
Lying to nature
Killing to man
Destroying woman
Annilating child

Your words
Were the last heard
As the "do not park here" sign was erected
Upon the earth

And millions disappeared into the dark
Abyss of the
Multi-coloured universe

Never to be seen or heard again

Your words

I bet you never even knew how powerful
Your words
Could
Be

I can definitely relate to this poem. Just the thought of the memories it brought sends shivers down my spine. Excellent work.

As I say, bruises fade, cuts get stitched up and even gunshots eventually heal...words slash into the soul, no bruises to show, no wounds to take to the emergency room for the nurses to fuss over. Words rip and tear deeper than any fist could possibly hit. Because words hit where no medical personal can heal - in your soul and in your heart.

Words cut deeper than any knife could,
When we say what we vowed we never would.
We must think twice before indulging
thoughts that from our mind are bulging.

It always amazes me how much damage words can do. Good read.
