Squirrel Terrorism
by Jeniffer Brand (Age: 38)

Contest Winner

Age Rating: 7 to 127

It happens to one in a million.
Well...maybe one in a trillion.

But sure enough, it happened to me!
The scar on my finger you can still see.

I got bit by a squirrel!

It was one late afternoon in Colorado Springs.
I was sitting on the porch watching a bird as he sings.

Up on the bench hopps a little brown squirrel....
flapping his tail in a twist in a twirl.

I bent over to hand him a peanut.
But he missed, grabbed my thumb, then a slash, then a cut!

I look in shock thinking "what if I have rabies"!
After all, I hear it's worse than having scabies!

So off to the hospital my friend and I go.
See, she doesn't drive like a granny, she doesn't drive slow!

The doctors, the nurses, everyone was surprised!
They were all around me looking at it, these guys!

"Squirrels are not rabid", I was happy to hear.
So the nurse sent me home and said "go...have a beer".

Everyone teased me after that day.
"Jeniffer, only you", thats all they can say!!!

I like it! I like squirrels, but I guess it would be no fun if they bit you! I didn't know that squirrels weren't rabid either, so I guess I learned something.

Hah! I like this, it's cute! I didn't know squirrels weren't rabid. But then, I have a long way to go from becoming a veterinarian. Did I spell that right? Anyway, great write! Hey that rhymes!

Cute! You've gotta watch those squirrels! I sit and watch them entice my kitties up trees all day long. Then, when the cat gets up there, it jumps to another tree, barking and laughing at my kitty.
I once was feeding ducks at a pond and I felt a tug at my pantleg.. it was a begging squirrel! LOL.
Good luck in the contest. Debbie

funny poem! some suggestions though:
some of the lines sound weird like 'They were all around me looking at it, these guys!' The rythm could use some work too. i really like it though! i like how you jokingly say have a beer ^.^

And they seem like such cute little things in the storybooks! This is cute, fun to read, especially knowing that it actually happened.

One small critique: I noticed that some parts of the poem are written 'past tense' and some are written 'present tense'. If you would use only one or the other, it would read better.

David Pekrul

Wild animals are just that, wild! You must always beware. You got lucky that the squirl did not do more damage. This was fun to read, but I bet it hurt! Thanks, Anthony

lol!! This reminds me of the time my cat Oskar brought home a squirrel!! Still alive! It freaked, and ran around the kitchen before jumping out the window. But squirrels scare me... they watch me all the time... hehe..heh....

I've been terroized by mice! They're cute, but when they invade the house, watch out, it's like an invasion. Squirrels are similar. Surprising this squirrel got that close to you.

I could see where a beer would help after that experience. Very effective poem.
