There once was a little humming bird
Flying so sweetly in the sky
She landed on a flower
And watched the other birds fly by
I looked at her for a while
And then she looked at me
She laid her bosom on my chest
And this is what said she
‘Everyday I come here to this exact same place
I don’t know how I find my way but I do here everyday
But today I feel differently
Somehow I feel brand new
Because even though I’ve come here a million times
I’ve never noticed you’
I smiled as she said these words for it touched somewhere deep inside
She turned her head back to the clouds and this time began to cry
‘Why do you cry, oh little one? Is it me and you being here?’
‘Oh no it is not because of you but because of me, my dear. You see in the clouds I made my life with others just like me but everyday I come to you and silent do you be
I drink your nectar, sit and look at my friends make their way through the sky but never have I thought of how you feel when I come by.
It’s different now somehow it is, for I am no longer just me.
Now I see that without you here I just wouldn’t be
And now that you look at me and I, finally looking at you
My heart is ached for all those times I just came and left when I was through’
‘That’s quite alright my friend’ said I to this little humming bird.
‘You needn’t worry about such things, you needn’t utter a word.
‘For all those times you came and drank and left when you were through I always knew that you were special because you were just being you.
Even though you may not know it, a bond we’ve made each day
For every time you flew around, never have you forgotten to pass my way
So don’t you cry my dear little friend’,
‘Friend?’
‘That’s right, a friend even if you didn’t see
That every time I smiled at you, you smiled right back at me'.
