Dancing Shadows
by Beverly Murrelle
copyright 10-07-2002

Age Rating: 7 to 127

Shadows are dancing
On green lawns and paved roads
In the land of glorious autumn
With trees colorfully clothed

Yellow hues gallop skyward
Orange shades free the spirit
A Red Maple matches flames
Drawing everyone near it

Sweater weather succeeds
In bringing a chill to the air
Whimsical melodies paint
Earth’s ballroom with flare

Pumpkin’s faces bring renewal
In the chill of the day
As groups cluster out-of-doors
On a ride filled with hay

Autumn--ah, yes
My favorite time of the year
Soon snowflakes will still us
Unmasking as winter draws near

Shadows soon undress
Unlike shades waltzing in fall
Naked limbs soon rest quietly
No longer dancing at all

This is a wonderful poem! I could see Autumn through my own eyes. Greece doesn't have an Autumn, only rain and mud. It was a relief to read this. Good job!

This is quite a stirring and elegant word picture of the Autumn world. I closed my eyes after reading it several times in succession and found myself wandering through the Autumn wonderland created by you via the magic of evocative verse!

Ah! What memories I conjoured while reading about the Maples' flaming red leaves and the wonderful colors of Autumn. Too bad we don't have change of seasons down here in Florida. That's got to be one of the things I miss the most. You described it beautifully.

Beverly I enjoyed the manner in which you gave life to the shadows. I love writing about the visuals of nature as you have so eloquently done.
