At midnight tonight
My first life has passed me
I don't presume life will ever be the same
All that I hope and pray for
Is that tomorrow I rise to a higher plain
As I look back with some frame of reference
I try to measure
Was my past a casuality or loss?
Even though I have friends
And have made my amends
Shall I go back and count the cost?
Or might I just gaze toward the infinite future
Counting blessing received really just for free
And should I note with respect, humility, and give thanks
For the footsteps that have always followed me
Might I savor the little tender moments
And let go of the heartaches and pain
And bathe in the advent of tomorrow
As I mount up on a higher plane
Where is the promise of lifes celebration?
Maybe where destiny eventually leads me
Toward the obvious, the real, and the simple
Spiritual days ahead that shall one day set me free
I look forward to this day
And rejoice in it better yet
To that moment when the past and the present
Yields to a future and that day of no regret.
