I’m only a ghost to you
When I wander downstairs after a night filled with nightmares
You stare through my soul into the wall
I walk around as if my feet don’t hit the ground
Watching you pour another cup of coffee and filling bowls with cereal
Praying that today you’d notice me standing there
I’m only a ghost to you
Someone who gets in the way
Someone who can’t do anything right
My tears are nothing more than slivers of light that bounces off the table
Reflecting outwards but not touching down
I stand there in all my form screaming inside
For you to notice the pain you’ve inflicted upon my soul
I’m only a ghost to you
A small child who haunts your home causing destruction wherever I go
That’s when you see the real human form
When I smash your lamps or crush your cigarettes
Then I become real and pay for this with burning pain across my face
I’m only a ghost to you
When I cry out in the night
My solitude can’t stand the silence and breaks forth
You simply roll over and yell for silence to the ghost who haunts your dreams
So I lay there wrapped in cold white linen and pray that one day you will see
That I am not a ghost
I am a child
Slipping quickly away from reality
Sliding into the world of fantasy where there is no pain
Where mothers and father love one another
Where cruel words aren’t spoken and children are loved
I know that world exists because they tell me it does
Those who wander in the ghost reality with me
I am not a ghost
And one day you will see
That what you lost the most
Was the daughter that could have been.
