In the log house there sat three
At the fireplace, drinking tea
There, sat a cuddled up cat, too
In the warmth of the room
Outside the log house was all white,
Snow covering every patch in site
Cold wind from the north did roar
The coming of a terrible storm
Fear did strike the family
In the log house, about what'd be
The end result of the storm
If it did last too long
Supplies were sure to finish
Or at least they would diminish
The family was sure to freeze
If the cold did increase
The thought didn't occur to them
That there was still time at hand
For them to go to the city
To get things for them to eat
Nor that there was still time to chop
Wood to add to the existing stock
More snow did come that evening
And even more the next day
Slowly and slowly the family's
Supply of food did decrease
Until one day there was no food
And so very little firewood
What was the end of the family?
In the garden is to be seen
In one corner there are three
Headstones which mark the place they be
Lying in a very deep sleep
From worldly pains they are free
And the cat? It's buried somewhere nearby
With a circle of stones to mark where it lies
