Girl With an Attitude

No one sits near her.
She radiates attitude.
Mouth turned down
Lips pouting, arms crossed
Tightly over an undeveloped chest.
A cup of coffee cooling
On the book strewn table
Before her.
Lank-haired and pale complexioned
She looks through me with
A blank, closed, stare.
I remember that introspective loner.
The girl who lost herself in books.
Could I reach her over the gulf
Of years and tears?
I walk on by.
She sits alone
In a bookstore coffee shop.
Holding on, and holding in
All that should be released.

This is a proublem for all ages. We live our lives consumed by our own needs and shut the door on others. Then it becomes hard to open up and let anyone in. The cycle goes on and on. Thanks, Anthony
Very nice ^.^ It says so much about a lot of us, I think. I mean, so many of us are really shy and have a really hard time openning up to people. I too was pretty shy when I was little, and still am. I have a pretty hard time talking to someone I don't know too well about really anything that is ME. And wow, you can really feel the pain expressed by the girl..and relate to the way she feels..
Maralee,
You paint a picture so true and so full of painful memories for some of us. I used to be extremely shy, so much so, that I didn't even have a close friend during my school years. Like Karen, I was labeled "stuck up". Your poem is well written and says a world about a condition that affects a lot of our young people.
