You Gave
by Catherine Wilson (Age: 32)
copyright 11-23-2002

Age Rating: 13 to 127

You gave to me these thought out lies.
I believed every word you said.
Undressing me with cunning eyes,
you conned me into bed.

You promised me a marriage vow
but you lied right to my face.
One month later, I’m pregnant now.
You’ve vanished without a trace.

You left me with no family near.
I’ve just turned twenty-one.
I’m forced to deal with stress and fear
while you’re out having fun.

We made a choice. We slept together.
We did it unprotected
and my life was changed forever
while yours went unaffected.

Nine months later, you missed the sound
of our newborn baby’s cries.
For you're somewhere in another town,
feeding women all your lies.

There is no way I can explain
the hurt you put me through.
It took me years to not retain
the hate I had for you.

I hope someday you hear the cries
from a baby of your own
and you’ll remember the night of lies
and leaving me all alone.

I know someday you’ll come around,
you’ll find Faith in some way
and when your daughter you have found
she’ll have one thing to say:

“With all that you have given me,
I give you in return.
Absolutely nothing.
For nothing is what you’ve earned.”

This is so powerful I feel all women should read it! Remember, we women are strong and can do anything. I really like your poem.
