Sacred mountains standing in majesty
Clouds hanging above as a shining crown
Snow covered crags jutting upward
Grasping, clutching heavenward.
Rents torn by eons of glaciers.
This Sacred mountain standing so proud, so tall
Stands silently observing all within her bounds
Birds soaring high above on thermals of warmth
Deer picking tender tidbits daintily off the carpeted slopes.
Squirrels scamper over limbs of ancient trees
Spreading needles to soften the earth and replenish growth
Nurturing seeds and seedlings to growth tall and sweet.
In this forest lies dangers and beauty
Water cascades over boulders moved by glaciers
Rivulets give way to brooks, brooks to streams
Streams to rivers slow in movement then race with angry abandon
Finally to lakes cold crisp and clean, untouched by hands.
Above the trees and docile creatures
Lay the shelves, the crags where nimble animals roam.
Goats have no rival in their world, yet one misstep kills
And all life is precious.
Birds of prey nest in these silent walls
Raising young for the next generations,
Grasses give way to mosses, clinging to rock,
Scrabbling for footholds within cracks to grow
Mushrooms find dark, damp sites and grow in profusion.
Here and there a splash of color which takes breath
And stomps it in awe.
This is the mountain of prayer, of solitude.
This is the place of renewal and growth.
This mountain of sacred beings.
Slumbering to wake one day to eternity.
