Living Dead
by Lyle Berry (Age: 62)
copyright 11-14-2002

Age Rating: 18 to 127

  Living Dead

We are the Living Dead
We had a life, but Life drained us dry
So we no longer care

We are the Walking Dead
We had direction, but Life destroyed our path
So we wander futilely

We are the Crying Dead
We used to laugh, but Life stole our humor
So we wail to deaf ears

We are the Ungrateful Dead
We were thankful, but Life mutated our blessings
So we are jealous

We are the Bitter Dead
We had sweet dreams, but Life shattered our hopes
So we bite our tongues

We are the Angry Dead
We knew elation, but Life ripped out the joy
So we are afraid to smile

We are the Hostile Dead
We were open and naive, but Life devoured our humanity
So we snarl with suspicion

We are the Living Dead
We had a life, but Life drained us dry
So we no longer care

Lyle, this poem speaks to me as I used to be one of the living dead..thankfully, writing has released my soul from death and I'm living once again. Great write.
