What is Death?
by Debra Rose (Age: 21)
copyright 11-26-2002

Age Rating: 10 to 127

"Death is the goal, life is the road we take to reach it." ~Mi-chan

What is death?
Is it the final end to everything?
A symbol for the eternal sleep?
It does not discriminate,
Does not take bribes,
Nor favor a single person.

Death is the only thing that cannot be corrupted
All will be held in its embrace
It will never judge by looks,
By color,
By sex or race,
Nor by preference or spouse.
It loves and hates all equally
Yet it brings for some mercy, and others
Agony.

It is not the judge
Nor is it the condemned.
Instead it is a leader
Taking one to punishment or joy
And sooner or later it will arrive at your doorstep
Whether you're ready or not.

Death is the last thing
That will be here when all is through.
It was born with life
And will out last it still;
For when all of life is dissapating
It will be death extinguishing the last flame
And turning out the lights

It is an escape most yearn for
It is a sign of reckoning for many
And a source of fear in near all souls
Yet death is the truest,
The kindest,
The fairest of all creations
Yet the one that we hate the most.

I like the topic and the questions. It is a great poem. You are verry good at not sticking to one topic.

Great philosophical exploration. Extreme insight into a theme that has stumped humanity since we were conscious beings! Hard subject to tackle, but you did an excellent job.

As a life insurance agent, I was drawn to your poem. Funny thing about death, only one to a customer! Nice work...

Truth is written in many forms. Your poem reminds me of my own mortality and the limited time I have.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and vision in this wonderful poem.
Walt
