Elegy of Great-Grandpa
by Sarah Wright
copyright 01-27-2003

Age Rating: 13 to 127

It seems like only yesterday when I went to visit you.
Now you’re gone and left me here and I’m not sure what to do.

I remember how it used to be before you went away.
I’d walk in every morning and you’d know just what to say.

I never had to ask, I knew just where you’d be.
I’d enter into the room and you’d be waiting for me.

Then the day came, when everything changed.
I was much too young to know it, but I’d never see you again.

I’m older now you see, I understand that fall.
I have only one thing left to say: “I miss you Great-Grandpa.”

I enjoyed your poem I hope I'm as good grandparent as your great grandpa was. Your poem flowed so well as I read it outloud.

Thanks for sharing that. Grandparents are a very special bread, aren't they? Nice job, the poem had good rhythm.
