September 11th

Twas September 11th and across this great land, the evildoers had dealt, a sinister hand; The Pentagon was burning, United had crashed, and the Twin Towers were stricken, soon to collapse;

The 340 they climbed to those in need, soon to be immortalized was this unique breed; Just everyday travelers, now aware of the act, they proclaim, “Let’s roll…” and fulfill a heroic pact;

Our leader was sitting, with a second-grade class, when an aide told him of the terror that had just come to pass; A call I received said, “A tower’s been hit!” so I ran to the TV and I stared for a bit; When what to my tear-filled eyes should appear, but unthinkable acts and a country in fear;

Loved ones are grieving, and our country is stunned, our leaders resolve to what now must be done; Mere days had passed, when the choices were offered, for we know who you harbor and it’s your lives that we proffer;

The President he urges “Get on with your day, live normal and travel about”; but after what’s happened, how can this be so, when there’s ever that shadow of doubt?;

The Holidays loom, a time of cheer, but for many families, this’ll be a solemn year; their loved ones are gone, without a simple “good-bye,” some cannot cope, as hard as they try;

The deadline had passed, and the time was now, to deliver the promise, to make them all bow; So off to the country, our warplanes they sped, to find the evil serpent, and sever his head;

The al Qaeda is beaten, the Taliban is through, and Osama bin Laden, we’re coming for you; You hide and you run, the coward you are, but trust me my “friend,” you’ll not make it far; To the ends of the Earth, for eternity we vow, not a moment of peace shall accompany you now;

Now is the time, we all should remember, how our lives were changed on the 11th of September; Think of those lost, and cherish those here, hold every moment, special, priceless and dear;

Take a moment to pause, and to say a prayer, for our heroes who’ve been sent to fight “over there”; be thankful you’re here, take stock of your life and sleep sound on our righteous might, with that I bid you a heartfelt farewell, Happy Holidays to all, and to all a Good Night!

Its funny how we can fire a missile from hundreds of miles away into a shaft only 12 inches in diameter, but we can't find Osama! Good write, Anthony
