Here comes the winter
by Betty Eskdale (Age: 63)
copyright 07-12-2001

Age Rating: 7 to 127

Here comes the winter,
I hate to see it come and Fall go,
Here comes the winter,
The North wind soon will bring the cold snow.
Fall, can't you stay a few more days,
We love your days of crackling leaves and golden haze...

Here comes the winter,
The North wind howls, oh, hear that wind blow.

Fall, can't you stay a little while, a little while?
Fall, with your golden days, your smoky haze....

Here comes the winter,
I hate to see it come and Fall go
Here comes the winter,
The North wind soon will bring the cold and snow

Fall, can't you stay a while,
Oh, just a little while?
Fall, with your golden days, your smoky haze....

Excellent Betty, I love the fall and always hate to see it go.

Beautiful writing, Fall never sticks around long enough for me either!

My winters here in Eangland are not too bad. I do know what yours is like and I understand your writing.

Well done!

This was a lyric contest entry, so the Marvin Hamlish haunting music had me pensive. I do love the autumn, crisp days, crunching leaves and woodsmoke sometimes. Thanks for the lovely comments.

Now that it's August, with winter just around the corner....Thanks heaps for the reminder!! My only consolation is that you also live in the wide open prairies, as I do, and therefore...I think your winters are probably worse than Winnipeg's. (Although it's hard to believe..Wpg gets colder than Siberia in the winter!) Good poem, sis..a tad wistful? Bunny

This reminded me of my most favorite poem of all time "Nothing Gold Can Stay" by Robert Frost. I was inspired to write something of my own after reading it, you might want to check it out. It's called "Seasons Fade". Please let me know what you think if you decide to read it. Thanks for the inspiration.
