What's the Point?

Like everyone else,
I wonder why I'm here
on this planet,
in this historical /hysterical era.

Different religions say different things,
give different reasons,
for our presence here and now.

Subscribing to no religion,
I wander in the dark,
trying to figure out if I'm on a mission,
or if I'm like a cockroach,
here to bother someone
for a span of three score and ten years,
as it says in the Bible.

The Christians believe that we are only here once,
and to get to "heaven" one must reach a pinnacle
of goodness,
by living a 'good christian life',
and doing unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Nice sentiment, a tad trite, and ....
somewhat unbelievable.

I still see people starving
in third world countries,
some of which are christian,
following the faith blindly.

That's the trouble with faith.
It's blind.

Some person with a robe on,
tells you to believe,
or you are a sinner,
and so,if you're me,
you're a sinner,
or
from Missouri.

Religions, man-made as they are,
cannot be perfect or true,
and the earth and all its wonders being
not "man-made", but made by God,
I'll go without organized religion.

I see God everyday,
in the horses, cats, dogs and kids,
green grass,blue skies,
Thunderstorms,
blooms on flowers and trees.

Perhaps our purpose here is not to have a purpose,
but like the animals, is to
"BE".

I watch preachers that call on you to donate your money to their church. Then they are caught in a hotel with a prostitute. I see the problems that the catholic church has with the boys that are abused by those that call themselves Godlike. I wonder if God really called them to serve them or they thought that they wouldn't be caught because they were with the church. These stories are all of men, not God. Your poem talks about this subject and no one can fault you for your opinion. You are an intelligent woman and you can make up your own mind, just as I have. While I choose to believe, I also enjoyed your opinion. Thanks, Anthony

I like the poem, the answer though is simple, live till you die, make this a better place than when you came, and beleive, for hope and love capture the soul and move the spirit to greatness.
Just like your poetry...

That poem hit home. I have always believed that the animals have it right.
I had to giggle when I read your computer name. My computer's name is HAL2003. lol

Hello David:

I think, by definiiton, a Christian is a person who believes that Christ was (is) the son of God, sent here to relieve us of our sins. So, by definiton, I am not a Christian. However, Christ did teach love for humanity, and a way of life that is a 'good' way of life....ie: treating others as you, yourself would like to be treated.
So, I can't say I am a Christian....and I don't think that you are either. I am admittedly an agnostic (something created this all, with or without purpose), but I don't believe that Jesus Christ is my saviour..nor is he the messiah. Damn, I'm rambling now.....be good to others is the basic tenet of my life. Enough said. Thanks for your comment!

Bunny
