The D Bar 2
Her mane was soft and glowing.
Her hair was shiny black.
Her gallop smooth and flowing,
a sway was in her back
That’s the way she seemed to me
that time so long ago.
I was eleven, so was she.
Her past I didn’t know.
We plowed fields, skidded logs, and put up hay.
I led her to the water trough and put her up dry.
A boy and his horse at work and play,
When I rode her she would fairly fly.
I always pondered when I curried and groomed.
Where did she come from?
On her left flank a mystery loomed.
She was branded D Bar 2.
